Hatch Street goes to Brookline
Hatch Street artist Michelle Lapointe (Studio 407) will exhibit two of her beautiful stained glass pieces, "Galaxy Light Box" and "Intertwined," in an upcoming show at the Brookline Arts Center titled "Contemporary Craft."
There will be an opening reception on Friday, June 16 from 6 to 8 p.m.

New gallery, new show!
The perfect way to spend your Friday evening: visit a brand new gallery at Hatch Street!
Denn Santoro and Helen Granger have transformed Space 306a of the Hatch Street building into the S&G Project Gallery, and their first show opens with a reception this Friday, May 5 from 5 to 8 p.m.
Their inaugural exhibit will feature multi-media assemblage artist Holly Carruthers, whose work combines found objects in an effort to "make sense of a world full of stuff."
The artist says her "vast collection of pilfered wood, glass, metal, ephemera and accoutrement are assembled, fused, overlapped, reorganized and juxtaposed" to create work that is "surreal, dream-like, lyrical, and otherworldly."
Holly's show, titled "Junkstaposition: Upcycling Found Objects to Art," will include 22 of her assemblages. The exhibition will remain on view until June 10.

Stop by to see this intriguing art, and meet the artist and the gallerists! A group of other Hatch Street artists will have their studios open as well, including Lori Bradley, who has recently relocated from a fourth floor space to a new studio on the second floor, # 211. Also, you can visit Michael and Joan Tracey in Studio 306 (abstract and Impressionist acrylic paintings and ink drawings) and Michelle Lapointe, the Glass Connector (stained glass and abstract paintings) in Studio 407.

Hatch Street women reach out to upcoming artists
Women from Hatch Street Studios showed their support for the next generation by participating in Saturday's Work, Women, and Art symposium at the New Bedford Art Museum/Artworks.
This event invites junior and senior high school students who identify as female to network with adult women professionals in the arts and learn more about real life in an artistic career. (By rough count, there were 20 professionals and 40 students in attendance.)
The day began with a presentation by guest speaker Beth McLaughlin, senior curator at the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, who talked about her involvement with the Pussyhat Project and the museum's upcoming exhibit on the craftivism movement. Guests then broke into small groups where panels of art professionals gave details on their career highlights and personal experiences. After more networking over a pizza lunch, students attended workshops on preparing portfolios and applying to art school.
A great time was had by all! Representatives from Hatch Street Studios included Kim Barry, Catherine Carter, Helen Granger, and Michelle Lapointe.

Printing with class
Hatch Street artist Pat Daughton recently gave a demonstration to Professor Adrian Tio's printmaking class at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. As part of her visit, Pat showed the students how to create monotypes using a lithographic press.

Solo show celebrates the "Ornamental"
Hatch Street artist Catherine Carter will present a solo show titled "Ornamental," at the School of Fashion Design, 136 Newbury Street, Boston. The exhibit runs from April 10 to May 10, with a reception open to the public on Friday, April 28, from 5:30 to 7 PM.
The reception is scheduled as part of ArtWeek Boston, and will include a talk by the artist, who is an alumna of the school. She will explain how her early career in the fashion industry led to her current profession as an artist, and how fabric and clothing remain a direct influence on her abstract acrylic paintings.
The show will include works from her "Filigree" series, most of which are being exhibited for the first time. The shapes in this series are inspired by expansive, looping forms such as fiber weaves, calligraphic marks, and natural shapes like roots and vines.
The School of Fashion Design is open Monday and Friday 9 AM to 4 PM, Tuesday to Thursday from 9 AM to 9 PM, and Saturdays from 9 AM to 3 PM. More information is available at CatherineCarterPainting.com.
